Mr. Patrick Dumont Jr.

Welcome to the Wanaki Treatment Center’s website.

The Wanaki Center is a residential rehabilitation treatment facility for all First Nation and Inuit adults suffering from alcohol and other substance abuse. Our treatment services are provided over a 5 week period in French and English on a rotational basis.

We began delivering our treatment services in September 1991 after completing a needs/feasibility study and consultation process within the Algonquin communities of Western Quebec. In 1994 we revised our mission and mandate by opening our services to all First Nation and Inuit from across Canada.

Over the years, Wanaki has continuously strived to be recognized as one of the leading treatment centers in the region of Quebec and Canada. From 1991 through 1997 we managed our Center under an annual contribution agreement with the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch of Health Canada’s National Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program (NNADAP).

Since 1997, we entered into a new agreement process with Health Canada giving our center the full responsibility of our treatment program services and the financial flexibility to administer and manage its operations. Our present Transfer agreement covers the period of 2005 through 2010, which also ensures long term suitability.

In 1999, Wanaki Center became the first treatment center in Canada to earn accreditation status from the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA). This national accreditation body has developed standards of service quality in the following areas.

    1. Leadership and partnership
    2. Addiction services
    3. Human resources
    4. Environment
    5. Information management

Every three years our center goes through a self-assessment process and peer review by CCHSA to ensure that our center is meeting the highest quality standards possible. Our Board of Directors and staff are pleased to share with everyone that we managed to maintain our certification status with CCHSA since 1999, which we are now in our 3rd cycle.

Hopefully the information on this website will respond to your needs. Throughout the website there are a number of links that will help guide you through information about our center such as, applying for services, dates of our treatment programs, the Board of Directors and staff, location of the Wanaki Center and a lot more.

I would like to thank everyone for the support, encouragement and trust they’ve provided to our center in assisting all First Nations and Inuit with their healing process. It is an honor for our center to serve our people!
